How to custom Cover Glass?

Cover Glass Design & Integration Service

Optimizing E Ink display performance in challenging environments requires careful consideration of cover glass design and integration. The cover glass serves as a crucial shield against scratches and impacts, while also enhancing optical clarity and enabling touchscreen capabilities.

At Good Display, we provide a range of cover glass substrates tailored for upgrade or replacement purposes. Our diverse selection ensures that you find the perfect match for your specific application requirements. From enhancing durability to maximizing functionality, we help you select the optimal cover glass solution for your needs.

Upgrade your E Ink display by replacing its cover glass with Good Display, offering a cost-effective solution to enhance protection, clarity, and functionality without exceeding your budget. Our use of high-quality materials from reputable brands, combined with low minimum order quantities (MOQs) and competitive pricing, ensures that we can meet all your project requirements.

Value Added Options

Take your cover glass integration one step further by adding a touch screen or front-light to your design. In the future, when your coverglass has been worn from normal wear & tear, you will only need a simple change of the top film for a clean and polished finish. With a restoration of the coverglass and top film coating, your coverglass will be restored to new.

Here are some points you need to know

1. Dimension

Larger than the display's active area (AA), and all shapes are available.

2. Meterial

Cover glass, typically made of glass substrate, can be strengthened based on the application requirements. There are various types of cover glass materials, each with unique strengths and properties.

  • Asahi Glass:  It's strength and performance are more stable, making it less prone to cracking and fracture. Therefore, Asahi Glass is widely used in the automotive industry to manufacture key components such as windows and rearview mirrors.

  • Corning Glass: It has a higher hardness compared to Asahi glass, making it more resistant to abrasion and scratches. Therefore, it is suitable for producing high-quality screens for smartphones, tablets, and other electronic products.

Overall, from a cost-effective and practical standpoint, we lean towards using Asahi Glass more frequently, the designers can choose the appropriate cover glass material depending on the specific needs of their application,

If transparency, hardness, and abrasion resistance aren't critical factors for your needs, acrylic can also be considered as an alternative cover material.

3. Thickness

The thickness of the cover glass typically used for ePaper displays is 0.55mm, 0.7mm, 1.1mm, 1.8mm and 2.0mm

4.  Bonding Type

The cover glass of a display is attached to the E Ink display using either tape or an optical clear adhesive (OCA). OCA bonding ensures that the touch panel, cover glass, and E Ink display are securely held together without smudging the display glass.

The OCA bonding process involves applying a thin layer (approximately 0.005”-0.008” thick) of clear adhesive around the bond line. This method is particularly suitable for thin materials like cover glass and touchscreens. OCA bonding is applied as a sheet to ensure a uniform bond across the surface of the cover glass.
